Add an anchor link

Linking to anchors is very similar to normal links. Normal links always point to the top of a page. Anchors point to a place within a page.

To add it:

  1. Edit your chunk and put your cursor next to the text where you want to link, and click the Anchor button highlighted in this screenshot:

  2. Enter a name for the anchor with only letters and numbers (no spaces or special characters). It's helpful if it describes the content, but you can use something like anchor1, anchor2, etc if you'd like. It's important that the anchor name is unique on that page. So if you have other anchors, they will all need unique names within a particular page. You'll notice that it creates a little Anchor icon where you placed it (see image below), so that if you need to edit the name, you can click on it and click on the Anchor button in the SAM toolbar. Save the chunk after you've added it.

  3. If you're linking to the anchor from within the same page such as with a Table of Contents, then edit the chunk, highlight the text you want to link, then click the Insert/Edit Link button, and click the General tab. The Anchors drop down will be populated with the available ones on that page and you can select it (see screenshot below).

  4. If you're linking to the anchor from another SAM page, then edit the chunk, highlight the text you want to link, then click the Insert/Edit Link button, and in the Link URL field you'll enter the SAM page ID you're linking to followed by the hash sign "#" followed by the anchor name, with no spaces. For instance:
    http://www.brandextract.com:9999/Default.asp?pageid=1#myanchor
  5. If you're linking to the anchor from an external site, such as an email or social media, you would publish the page with the anchor, then link to it like this:
    http://www.brandextract.com/#myanchor
